‘Way back in the mists of time ‘Moonshine Freeze’ was but a kernel of an idea, a sliver of a shiver. Before we went in the studio with John Parish, I went on a solitary confinement writing retreat, heading up some stairs and in a cupboard at J & J Studio (thanks Jim!), and in our very own Jamie’s shed It was a time of finishing off songs, working out arrangements and looking for drum patterns in preparation for burying ourselves in the studio to get the album recorded. I like hearing these early versions again. It totally takes me back to that time and those places. Formative times. Some of these recordings found their way into our lovely label Rough Trade Records’ hands and they thought that you lot would like to hear these embryonic versions’

The album Moonshine Freeze was released in July 2017 to praise from outlets including NPR Music, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, Paste, Uproxx, Brooklyn Vegan, Drowned in Sound, and more. In late November, This Is The Kit supported The National on a North American tour and filmed their first performance for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert (LINK). The band also played a stripped-back version of “Moonshine Freeze” live on WGN TV’s Morning News.
