BMG’s fast-growing recordings business has scored its best UK charts tally yet with three of its releases in the Top 10 of this week’s Official UK Albums Chart.
blink-182 lead the pack with their seventh studio album, California, debuting at Number One.
Meanwhile, Rick Astley‘s 50 – which also debuted at Number One in the UK in June – is still sitting at number eight in the territory’s album rankings.
Astley is closely followed by BMG’s Bat For Lashes whose fourth studio LP The Bride, which is licensed to Parlophone, has debuted at number nine.
California is blink-182’s first BMG album. While the band have sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, they have never reached the top of the UK albums chart until now. Prior to California, their most successful UK album release was 2001’s Take Off Your Pants And Jacket, which peaked at number four.
The performance of Rick Astley’s 50 is similarly significant. It’s also his first release with BMG as well as being his most successful album in 30 years. The iconic singer last topped the Official UK Albums Chart with his 1987 debut record Whenever You Need Somebody.
